Walt Femling has 35 years of Law Enforcement experience including 24 years as the Sheriff in Sun Valley Id. Walt is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Washington State Executive Command College. As Sheriff, Walt has overseen many high profile criminal investigations that have gained national attention. One of those cases, the Sarah Johnson murders were profiled on nine national television shows and Walt is a regular speaker to law enforcement professionals on the techniques used to solve this crime.
In Walt’s career, he has been part of planning security for dozens of high profile dignitaries, including the Vice President of the United States, presidents and prime ministers of other countries, U.S. Supreme Court justices and presidential cabinet members. Walt was in charge of the security for the Dali Lama for one of his first United States presentations that had over 10,000 people in attendance. In 2004, Walt was recognized by the Director of the United States Secret Service for his efforts and contributions to the Secret Service in assisting in the security planning for these high profile dignitaries.
Walt has held many leadership positions in his career that affords him contacts all over the country. Walt has served as president of the Idaho Sheriffs Association, president of the Idaho Association of Counties, president of the FBI National Academy Associates, chaired the Law Enforcement/Federal Agency coordination committee for the Western States Sheriffs Association, and served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties and the National Justice and Public Safety committee.
